I hear Christians frequently say "It's all about God," but I question the accuracy of this clause.  My question has more to do with it than anything else.

If by "It's all about God," people mean God is jealous and will not share his glory with anyone else, then I say Amen.  But if they mean that worship has everything to do with God and nothing to do with man, then I disagree.

As a five-point Calvinist I'm eager to point theology back to God.  Worship is all about God in the sense that he is the only one who deserves our devotion and praise.  But if we seek to make worship all about God while excluding man, that's mistaken.  Man needs to enjoy worshiping God.  Since man participates in worship, then the it of "It's all about God" can't be only about God.  The direction of worship is God-ward, but it includes man in the process.  Man is, after all, the worshiper.

So the next time you're tempted to say, "It's all about God," stop and reconsider what it refers to.
