A FEW SUGGESTIONS ABOUT HOW YOUR CHURCH CAN SUPPORT MISSIONS Print E-mail
Written by Kevin L. Howard

1. Pray that God raise up missionaries from your own congregation and make yourself available to go.

2. See missions in the bigger picture of God's plan for spreading his fame.  Mission work isn't an end in itself.  Glorifying Christ is.

3. Understand that missions work is not for the super saint (because there are none).  It's for all believers.  You are a minister too, just as much as a pastor or missionary.

4. Invite missionaries to speak at your church.

5. Support a particular missionary through prayer, finances, regular letters, and care packages.

6. Build fewer buildings and send more missionaries.

7. Appoint some people in your church to take about two minutes every Sunday to tell the whole congregation, or class, about a particular unsaved people group.  Then pray for that country.  (See the book Operation World, by Patrick Johnstone).

8. If you're a pastor, go on an annual mission trip.  That way, you'll have a better idea of what you're asking your people to do.  If you're not a pastor, suggest to your church leaders that your congregation help support your pastor(s) in this way.

9. Organize a yearly mission trip for your church.  This will do wonders to involve your church in missions.

10. Start asking God for big things and start attempting those things.  Many small churches take short-term mission trips every year, and often times the task seems overwhelming.  But this act gets them in the habit of trusting God for big things rather than only taking on easy tasks.

11. Give financially to your denomination's missions offerings.

12. Adopt an unreached region of the world.  Talk to your local denominational leaders about how to adopt a country or region in the 10/40 window.
