DOES JESUS' RESURRECTION MATTER? Print E-mail
Written by Kevin L. Howard
What if scientists discovered the tomb of Jesus, and, much to our surprise, he was still dead?  With recent discussions surrounding the Discovery Channel's (March 2007) documentary, "The Lost Tomb of Jesus," the question of the resurrection's importance has received some public air time.  Documentaries such as this provide an opportunity for Christians to ask more questions about the Bible.  Do we believe in fables or in historically reliable events?

YOUR KEY TO UNDERSTANDING LIFE Print E-mail
Written by Kevin L. Howard
If you want to know your purpose in life, look first to God's Word.  Since you didn't create yourself, you can't understand your purpose on your own.  You need your Creator's help.  "In Christ is hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Colossians 2:2-3).  Did you get that?  Christ is the key to understanding life.  If you are a mechanic, your first lesson is that Christ is the key to figuring out how mechanical things function.  If you're a scientist, Christ is the key to thinking about the substance under the microscope.  If you're an oilfield worker, Christ is the key to understanding how those useful elements ever got in the earth.

IT'S ALL ABOUT GOD? Print E-mail
Written by Kevin L. Howard

I hear Christians frequently say "It's all about God," but I question the accuracy of this clause.  My question has more to do with it than anything else.

If by "It's all about God," people mean God is jealous and will not share his glory with anyone else, then I say Amen.  But if they mean that worship has everything to do with God and nothing to do with man, then I disagree.

As a five-point Calvinist I'm eager to point theology back to God.  Worship is all about God in the sense that he is the only one who deserves our devotion and praise.  But if we seek to make worship all about God while excluding man, that's mistaken.  Man needs to enjoy worshiping God.  Since man participates in worship, then the it of "It's all about God" can't be only about God.  The direction of worship is God-ward, but it includes man in the process.  Man is, after all, the worshiper.

So the next time you're tempted to say, "It's all about God," stop and reconsider what it refers to.
